I had a similar problem in my Mondeo 1.8 TD a few years ago and this was cured by changing the engine oil and filter to the correct type. I had used the special Duckhams 10w-40w Turbo Diesel (or was it 15w-40w?) oil but once I changed it to the correct Ford 5w-30w (Formula-E ) ordinary oil, the turbo worked a treat every time.
