3800 is a lot. But, I track calories pretty closely - drinks, cooking oil, all that included. If I didn't do that, and didn't make very conscious decisions and lower-calorie substitutions, it would be very easy for me to eat 3000 in a day.
I was eating well over 4000 calories a day last summer. I was working really hard at the time, and actually losing fat the whole time (I went from 125lbs to 135lbs, but it was all muscle), but I definitely couldn't sustain that kind of intake without working super hard. So if you're working out a lot, that could totally be reasonable.
